Adam and Eve has always been a story in the bible that i don't get!!?

Okay so God made adam and eve they made Cain and Abel (who by the way are both boys!). how on gods green earth did more people come unless Cain or Abel slept with their mother? which is crazy? maybe it was aloud in biblical times? anyone with a straight answer for me?
