I need to know about the Strep A infection with the umbilical chord of a newborn.?

My 2 week old son has just been diagnosed with the Strep A infection of his healing umbilical chord. His pediatrician admitted him into the hospital yesterday, and today said that they will monitor and keep him for seven more days minimum. They are acting like it's very serious, but don't seem to be offering much information on the possibilities or outcomes. Can anyone help???
